Royal Road, Red River Canyons and Morro das Lages.
The Estrada Imperial Municipal Natural Park is located 800 meters from the historic center of the city of Goiás. The term "Estrada Imperial" refers to the old royal roads of Brazil, the name given to the old official roads that connected the Brazilian captaincies on the coast to the interior of Brazil. They were used by the Portuguese crown to transport gold collected in the mines and collect taxes on minerals. The trail follows the original route of the road explored by bandeirantes, where remnants of 18th-century constructions, such as water galleries, can be found. During the hike, you can see the diversity of the Cerrado flora, with many plant species along the trail. The first stop is the Cânions do Rio Vermelho, an ideal spot for a nice swim in the river. Then we head to the Morro das Lajes Lookout, where we enjoy a wonderful view of the city and the sunset. The trail ends at Parque da Carioca, with a restaurant, restrooms, and swimming spots in the Vermelho River.
